Why not start with the garage?

garageNot sure where to start your summer clean out? Here in the northwest, starting on a garage is a great option because it can be done rain or shine. Here are some tips to help you tackle that garage:

  • Dedicate at least one full day or weekend when no other obligations will require your focus.
  • Invite friends or family members to pitch in – offering pizza and drinks always helps!
  • Leave no box unpacked – go through all of them.
  • Divide and conquer – separate everything into four areas: keep, toss, donate, or sell.
  • Be sure paint and propane are stored safely.
  • Put paper products and pet food in sealed containers to avoid drawing bugs or other critters.
  • Mount a fire extinguisher – a must for garage safety.
  • Draw a floor plan! There are free tools online.
  • Use shelves and cabinets wherever possible to help keep the floor clean and clear.
  • Utilize plastic bins for items that belong together, and jars with lids to help sort hardware.
  • Use wall space – maybe you could add a pegboard or hooks for your items?
